Fear of Flying (Aerophobia / Aviaphobia) "Wouldn't You Like to Jet off Around the World to Exotic Destinations?" At one time or another, 20% of us or one person in five will develop a pronounced and disabling Fear of Flying. For some it will be because they have never flown before. For others they may have been involved in some mishaps or adverse flying conditions previously. For yet more, they may have associated phobias directly impinging on being inside the airplane e.g. claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) or acrophobia (fear of heights). Fortunately and for the overwhelming majority of sufferers, these fears can be successfully overcome using tried and tested psychological approaches to both understanding the fears and addressing them. This therapy can be conducted individually on the ground and in group seminars organised by Airlines for this very purpose. A number of airlines run Fear of Flying courses but Andrew Walton conducted the exceptionally successful series for Air 2000 the award winning charter airline of First Choice Holidays in the U.K. These day long seminars allow us to explain the physics of aviation from the technical standpoint and the psychology of anxiety from the human perspective. With up to 20 trained flight attendants and three pilots to talk through every aspect of the journey, the day culminates in an hour long flight over the country in a Boeing 757 or A320 Airbus with Andrew on hand to address any psychological issues personally. An in-flight meal is generally included in the package and on returning to our airport we celebrate with a glass of Buck's Fizz and every passenger receives a signed Certificate of Achievement. Currently, there are no new airborne Fear of Flying seminars planned by the airline, itself. However, Don't Let Your Fears Restrict Your Holiday Plans. (You'd have to fly for Nine Years continuously to experience something like
this...... )

new!! INTENSIVE TWO-SESSION COURSE NOW AVAILABLE ! new!! At the first session, we explore the facts about modern aviation; aerodynamic theory; discover the qualities of air; appreciate aspects of meteorology; listen in to pilots and air-traffic controllers talking, as well as understanding the psychology of anxiety; the physiology of the autonomic nervous system; the cognitive processes by which people construe their experiences; how errors in thinking invariably lead to mis-perceptions of threat when none is present and learn effective techniques to quell and attenuate feelings of panic. This session will extend over four to five hours, with a buffet lunch included. The second session, a few days later, comprises an actual scheduled airline flight to one of the European Union capital cities for a day trip, accompanied by your psychologist/or an experienced Air Stewardess to confront and overcome your flying phobia. We will allow plenty of time for a shopping / sight-seeing excursion before returning home. A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded on landing.
The Fee for this Intensive Course is GBP 995 which includes the airfares and taxes etc. (No more than four (4) clients will be admitted in each course.).
Alternative ground-based courses can be individually tailored to lead up to an unaccompanied scheduled passenger flight if a client wishes. Because of our close links to the airline industry, it is often possible to include Special Preference for check-in and advance boarding as well as appointing a named stewardess to take particular care of you during the journey.
